The best show I had in 2013 was a school in Wiltshire. To get this booking again in 2014 was a thrill I was excited to be going back. As an entertainer you want a great reaction from your crowd. It’s a real buzz and what makes it all the worth while. These children were the most responsive audience ever. With about 150 children and all under the watchful glare of teachers, their attention span is perfect. I don’t do many schools so these are the perfect conditions for a great show.

I have parts structured throughout my show where I expect certain audience responses as a laugh or look of amazement etc and when it came to these moments in the show in 2013 I received these in great fashion from the children. This year I really wanted to push it and get more from them. I wanted them to laugh harder and longer. I wanted to leave them even more amazed at the magic with the belief that magic does exist. Most importantly I wanted them to go away thinking that was amazing. That is always my goal anyway with every show but with this being my second time here I feel I had a previous performance to compare my show with.

For the few months leading up this booking from taking it I was really excited about it as I have a much improved show from last years and I feel I’m a much stronger performer. By receiving a better audience response it feels like I’ve been given a big tick for my improvements and with this comes a massive sense of accomplishment. I don’t have a boss to tell me I’ve done better. I had to blow the roof of this place.

My tricks where set and I was already for the children to take their place on the assembly hall floor and enjoy the cabaret that is the Ozzy Wizzpop show. My warm up erupted them with laughter. I’ve done this 100’s of times now and I’ll never need to change it. It’s the perfect start to a show (if I may say so). Next I hit them with my funny audience member balloon trick. More laughter ensued! Where they ready for Boners the monkeys amended 2014 show? I’ve improved this a lot and its probably the strongest part of my show. Il try not to blow my trumpet too much in this post. What I can say is that the response I got this year was much improved than the last year – mission complete.

As I packed my stuff away I followed behind a mum and her son as I walked to my car. I heard an excited conversation as he told his mum all about the tricks I did. This was a real special moment for me, to know the joy I had gave that lad through my performance and that hopefully this same conversation may well be happening between other children and parents.

The headmaster handed me my cheque on the way out and told me he would see me next year. So twelve months to better that performance then!
